Old Time Radio Shows from the Golden Age and Beyond

Old Time RadioWelcome to the Saturn Radio Network. Five fantastic channels broadcasting 24-7 for your entertainment.

The old-time radio era, known to many as the Golden Age of Radio, refers to a period of radio programming in the United States lasting from the proliferation of radio broadcasting in the early 1920s until the 1950s, when television superseded radio as the medium of choice for scripted programming and radio shifted to playing popular music.

During this period, when radio was dominant and filled with a variety of formats and genres, people regularly tuned into their favorite radio programs.

Clitheroe_KidUnlike the US, in the UK the 'Golden Age' has never truly disappeared. The BBC continues until this very day to produce vasts amounts of quality radio programming, especially in the genre of drama and comedy. From the end of the US 'Golden Age' in the mid 50s the UK started to step-up their output of comedy programming. In the US, popular radio shows were turned into TV shows, in the UK, popular TV shows were turned into radio shows, Dad's Army and Steptoe & Son are two prime examples.

old-transistor-radio-isolated-I have always been romantically involved with radio, from a very early age when I would take my little leather bound transistor radio to bed and tune across the scale. Radio Luxembourg would drift in and out on the skip, the pirate stations like Caroline, Radio England would also make an appearance and I would go to sleep after listening to a book at bedtime on BBC Radio 4. Radio is truly imagination theater for the mind. In these days of cheap & nasty, 'dumbed down' reality television, this collection of radio gems has become more important than ever. I have collected and archived more than 70,000 shows over the last 30 years and my intention is to bring them to the ears of a new audience. Not for profit, just for the pure pleasure of entertaining  the next generation of radio listeners.

Happy listening to you all!
